사회과학 분야의 ESG 연구 동향: 동시출현 네트워크 분석을 중심으로

국내외적으로 ESG의 중요성이 부각됨에 따라 사회과학 분야에서 ESG에 대한 논의가 어떻게 형성되어 있는지를 파악하는 것은 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 이에 본 연구는 ESG 주제어에 대한 동시출현 네트워크 분석을 수행하여 사회과학 분야에서 ESG에 관련한 논의 동향과 그 의미를 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2009년부터 2023년 2월까지의 ESG와 관련된 핵심 주제어로 검색된 사회과학 분야 국내 학술지 599편의 논문을 대상으로 755개의 주제어를 추출하고 이를 관계형 네트워크 데이터로 구축하여 분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과 ESG를 제외하고 CSR, ESG 경영, 사회책임투자, 기업가치 등과 같은 주제어들이 높은 중심성 지수를 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 기업의 사회적 책임과 이를 실현하기 위한 지속가능한 경영 방식 측면에서 ESG 연구가 논의되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 블록모델링 결과 총 5개의 군집유형이 도출되었으며, 지속가능성이라는 개념 안에서 논의되었던 소극적 차원의 기업의 사회적 책임 문제가 기업의 가치 영역으로 확장되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 ESG 관련 논의에 대한 네트워크 분석 결과 및 한계점을 토대로 향후 ESG 논의의 방향성과 정책적 함의를 제시하였다.
Abstract
With the growing significance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) on both national and global levels, it is crucial to comprehend the shaping of ESG discourse in the field of social sciences. This research undertakes a co-occurrence network analysis of ESG-related keywords to investigate the patterns and implications of ESG discussions in social sciences. A dataset comprising 599 articles from domestic and selected social science journals published between 2009 and February 2023 was examined to extract 755 thematic words associated with ESG. By constructing a relational network, the collected data underwent analysis. Results revealed that, apart from ESG, key terms such as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), ESG management, socially responsible investment, and corporate value exhibited high centrality indices. Blockmodeling techniques yielded five distinct cluster types, indicating the expansion of CSR issues—within the realm of sustainability—into the domain of corporate value. By employing network analysis to explore ESG-related discussions, this study provides insights into the future trajectory of ESG discourse and its policy implications.
