21세기 한국 디자인학의 모색

초록
디자인은 산업시대 초기 인공물의 생산을 기획하고 결정하는 행위에서 현재 정보의 질과 양에 따라서생성되는 새로운 가치를 결정하는 행위가 되고 있다. 지적 능력을 대체하게 될 AGI(artificial general intelligent)의 등장으로 기존의 사고와 개념을 뛰어넘는 새로운 경계와 확장의 시대를 맞이하여 디자이너의 역할은 그전과 다르게 될 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 지금까지 디자인 이론에 대한 연구의 흐름에 대해 알아보고 앞으로의 방향성에 대해서 모색해 보는 것이다. 디자인학의 역사는 크게 두 가지의문화로 나뉠 수 있다. 그것은 인식론과 행위론인데 인식론은 이론을 바탕으로 하여 역사, 철학, 비평과같은 창조적인 인식과 사고에 대한 기본적인 질문을 설계하는 바탕이 될 수 있는 영역이다. 행위론은디자인을 제작하는 데에 실질적으로 필요한 조형론, 기술론, 비즈니스론, 디자이너론 등 창작에 필요한 실무와 실천에 관한 이론이다. 이러한 두 가지의 이론적 문화는 산업 혁명이후에 서구에서 축적되어 왔으며, 최근에는 디자인을 문제해결의 과정으로 보고 과학적으로 접근하는 리서치 방법론과 “디자인 씽킹”에 관한 모델이 행위론과 인식론을 융합하여 보편화되고 있다. 그러나 디자인은 이제 새로운방식의 연구방식이 필요하다. 이러한 배경에는 최근 범용인공지능(AGI)과 메타버스, 그리고 웹 3.0시대를 맞이하여 인간의 존재방식을 새롭게 대체할 수 있는 기술적 환경이 형성되면서 데이터의 이합집산의 양상을 통한 가치 창조와 양적/질적 리서치의 융합과 보편성과 특수성에 유연한 방식이 요구되기 때문이다. 따라서 2000년대 이후 형성된 과학과 인문학을 결합한 ‘인류세’와 ‘신유몰론’과 같은 융합이론과 디자인 한국학과 디자이너 중심의 실천적 아카이브를 디자인학이 21세기에 나아가야 할 방향으로 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
The concept of design has moved from planning the production of artifacts in the early industrial age to determining new values created according to the quality and quantity of current information. With the emergence of AGI (artificial general intelligent), which will replace human intellectual ability, the designer’s role will be changed. The purpose of this study is to review the history of research on design theory and to find out about the future direction of design studies for new era. The history of design studies can be divided into two cultures. It is epistemology and practical theory. The Practical theory is within designing for creation, such as theory about planning, technology, business, and designer creative, which are practically necessary for design production. Epistemology is about the theory on design, which can be the liberal arts of basic questions about creative cognition and thinking such as history, philosophy, and criticism based on discourses. These two theoretical cultures have been accumulated in the Western design history since the Industrial Revolution. New research methodology that views design as a process of problem solving through a scientific approach suggesting a “design thinking” have become a common model of integrating behavioral theory and cognitive psychology. However, design now requires a new way of research. This is because as a technological environment that can newly replace the way of human existence according to creating new values through the combination and collection of current data with simultaneous quantitative and qualitative research. Therefore, the concept of human becomes relative in the multi-environmental space. For now I would like to suggest moderate ways as the direction that design studies should go in the 21st century in Korea. First, convergence theory such as ‘Anthropocene’ and ‘Newmaterialism’, which combine science and humanities formed after the 2000s. Secondly, research and practical archives centered on history of Korean design and designers.
