The Moderating Effect of Public Pensions and Real Estate Assets in the Effect of Social Participation on the Satisfaction of Life of the Elderly

Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the moderating effect of public pensions and real estate assets in the effect of social participation on the quality of life of the elderly. Methods: Data from the 8th Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing in 2020 was accessed. 2,823 elderly people aged 65 or older were selected for this study. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to figure out the moderating effects of public pension and real estate assets on the relationship between social participation and life satisfaction of the elderly. Results: The results of the analysis are summarized as follows. First, the moderating effect of public pension was verified in the effect of economic activity participation on life satisfaction. Second, the moderating effect of real estate assets was verified in the effect of social activities on life satisfaction. Conc lus i ons: It is necessary to provide customized social participation support and strengthen related systems to improve the life satisfaction of the elderly.
