청소년비행의 발생과 지속에 대한 연구: 가정, 학교, 정서 요인 비교검증
A Study on Offending and Persistence in Juvenile Delinquency: Comparing the Effects of Family, School, and Propensity Factors

본 연구는 청소년비행의 발생과 지속 원인을 파악하기 위해 발달범죄학이 제시하는 가정, 학교, 정서 요인을 포함하는 로짓 모형을 구축하였다. ‘한국아동·청소년패널조사 2010(KCYPS 2010)’의 초등학교 4학년 패널자료의 4~6차년도 자료를 분석한 결과, 1,879명의 청소년 가운데 315명(16.76%)이 중학교 1학년 시기에 비행을 저질렀고 그중 50명(2.66%)이 중학교 3학년 시기까지 비행을 지속하였다. 비행의 발생에는 비행친구, 공격성, 학대가 정적 영향을 미쳤고, 규칙준수, 학습전념, 부모감독은 부적 영향을 미쳤다. 그런데 비행의 지속에는 비행친구와 공격성만 정적 영향을 미쳤고 부모감독만 부적 영향을 미쳤다. 이어서 비행중단 집단과 비행지속 집단을 비교분석한 결과, 4차년도에서 6차년도로 변할 때 비행을 지속하는 집단은 중단하는 집단에 비해 비행친구와의 접촉이 별로 감소하지 않았고 공격성과 집중력부족은 오히려 악화되는 경향이 있었다. 또한 부모감독의 평균 차이도 더욱 커졌는바, 결국 비행친구와 공격성은 비행지속을 유발하는 요인으로, 부모감독은 비행지속을 억제하는 요인으로 간주할 수 있었다. 부모감독을 비롯한 올바른 양육방식은 청소년의 정서 안정에 직접적인 도움이 되고, 올바른 가치관과 유대감, 사회성을 함양시켜 비행친구를 멀리하게 만드는 간접효과도 있기 때문에 올바른 양육방식 강화를 위한 정책 당국의 체계적인 노력이 요구된다. 향후 연구에서는 더 다양한 요인에 대한 검증, 요인들 간의 상호작용과정 검증, 성별 차이에 대한 검증 등이 필요할 것이다.
Abstract
This study constructed logit models with family, school, and propensity factors to find the cause of offending and persistence in juvenile delinquency. Data of 1,879 adolescents from the 4th ~ 6th wave of the fourth graders panel of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2010(KCYPS 2010) were analyzed, discovering that 315 students (16.76%) committed misbehavior in the 4th wave year (during the period of the 1st grader of middle school), and 50 out of the 315 delinquents continued misbehavior through the 6th wave year (up until the period of the senior grader of middle school). Delinquency offending was positively affected by delinquent peers, aggressiveness, and parental maltreatment and negatively affected by rule-abiding, commitment, and parental supervision. Whereas, risk factors such as delinquent peers and aggressiveness had significant effects on persistence in delinquency, and a protective factor of parental supervision appeared to be able to stop the continuity. Good parenting skills including supervision are well known for helping stabilizing temper. Also attitudes toward traditional values, bonds, and sociality are strengthened through good parenting, which helps avoiding delinquent peers. Thus, systematic efforts to improve parenting skills are indispensable among governments, schools, and law enforcement agencies. Future research requires testing more diverse factors, interactional relationships among the factors, and gender differences.
