ESG 관점으로 본 사회참여건축의 공간특성 연구

(Background and Purpose) Social sustainability is a concept related to the continuity of human society's environment, economy, and social aspects. It is intended to merge civilization and human activities and perform activities to sustain this ideology. As the subjective needs of users have become the most critical factor in the design process, they are a central topic in modern architectural discussions. Social participation architecture considers social, cultural, and economic aspects to enable positive human interaction and create an environment that improves the overall quality of life in the community. In addition, climate change, a worldwide issue, profoundly impacts human activities, expanding the influence of the weather caused by building activities to the concept of ESG, which determines the direction and sustainability of future development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between ESG characteristics through the background and methods of architecture and describe social participation in architectural thinking as architects' social participation activities increase. (Method) This study examines the background and flow of social participation architecture, identifies ESG concepts, and explains the relationship between ESG characteristics and why they should be introduced. In addition, considering the characteristics of social participation architecture, ESG's practical direction is presented through various case analyses. (Results) The social sustainability of architecture is an essential strategy for community participation through a collaborative approach. Looking at existing cases of social participation architecture for social values, it has been confirmed that sustainable practices from environmental and social perspectives have long been implemented. This practice aims to provide equal benefits by focusing on the use of technology for the environment and the needs and values of the community, as well as collecting and improving the living environment of users, inducing the voluntary participation of local residents. (Conclusions) Western European countries such as Canada and Australia actively seek social policies for low-income families. However, discussions on social responsibility as a policy tool are insufficient in Korea. Sustainable development and climate-related activities are linked, and architecture must be able to grow economic, cultural, political, and ecological values evenly, supporting the welfare of mankind now and in the future. Sustainability pursued by ESG management induces the revitalization of urban communities, in line with the necessary and sufficient conditions for human survival. Hence, social participation architecture needs to present measures for social responsibility to contribute to the practical improvement of quality of life.
