국내 폰트 라이선스 유형에 대한 연구

This research conducts a comparative analysis of license types pertaining to free fonts and those offered by font companies. The objective is to enhance comprehension of font copyright and endorse standardized licensing. The categorization of font license types includes print, image, BI·CI, web, embedding, and Open Font License (OFL). A meticulous investigation is conducted on commercial open-source and foundry fonts. Specifically, scrutiny is applied to the license policies governing the top ten open-source fonts in popularity and downloads on 'Noonu' and 'Gonggon Nuri(Korea Open Government License)' platforms as of October 2023. For foundries, the analysis encompasses font ownership, sales platforms, cloud services, and concomitant licensing policies. Results elucidate that even entities adopting a license-free paradigm have specific provisions for mobile, web, video, and embedding usage, with distinct embedding classifications. Moreover, each font foundry manifests unique constituents within their respective licensing frameworks. In summation, it recommends concerted efforts to standardize emerging fort licensing paradigms, preventing conflicts and fostering secure font application. It is envisaged that this study will serve as a seminal contribution towards the advancement of legitimate font utilization and the enrichment of Hangeul font culture.
