ESG경영을 위한 탄소배출성과가 경영자보상에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether efforts made by executives to enhance carbon performance for the achievement of sustainability goals are closely linked to executive compensation. Empirical analysis is conducted using carbon efficiency and carbon productivity variables as metrics of carbon performance. Firstly, carbon efficiency is measured through the commonly employed DEA analysis for efficiency assessment, revealing a positive association between higher carbon efficiency and increased executive compensation. Secondly, the analysis explores the relationship between executive compensation and carbon productivity, measured using carbon emissions allowances and operating profits, uncovering a significant positive correlation between carbon productivity and executive compensation. This suggests that executive compensation contracts incorporate carbon performance to motivate executives to align with global trends in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing corporate value through environmental strategies. This study underscores the importance of designing compensation agreements that integrate carbon emission reduction performance, allowing executives to effectively implement long-term environmental strategies with a broader perspective rather than focusing solely on short-term performance preferences.
