발전공기업의 경영 전략을 위한 ESG 선별지표 연구

With climate change as a global issue and growing interest in corporations’ sustainability, ESG(Environmental, Social, Governance) has already been recognized as an essential element for companies. As the importance of ESG is emphasized in Korea, many organizations have developed ESG indices to conduct evaluations of companies and research on ESG is also being carried out in academia. However, most of the ESG indices developed earlier focus on large companies, and most academic studies heavily rely on a few indices such as KEJI(Korea Economic Justice Institute) Index by Citizens’ Coalition for Economic Justice or ESG evaluation by Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability. For selective management strategies, however, it is very important to determine the priority of each ESG index. Unlike large private companies, it is very difficult for public power companies with relatively limited resources to allocate their resources evenly across all ESG indices. Therefore, this study aims to develop the ESG indices for public power companies, derive the priorities of their ESG indices and provide the guidelines for their ESG management strategies. This paper performed a literature survey to develop ESG indices and an AHP analysis for their priorities. This research selected seven environmental sub-indices, eight social ones, and five governance ones as the ESG sub-indices for public power companies. The ESG sub-indices derived from this research specifically present the factors for which public power companies should preferentially allocate their resources.
