A Case Analysis on Technology Transfer of Unmanned Automatic Entry Card Issuance Kiosk: Exploring Success Factors

본 연구는 한 R&D 컨설팅 업체가 외부 기술업체들과 협력하여 무인 자동 출입증 발급 키오스크를 개발하고, 이를 의뢰기업에 성공적으로 기술이전한 사례를 분석하였다. 본 사례연구의 목적은 차별화된 무인 자동 출입증 발급 키오스크 개발을 위한 특허전략은 무엇이며, 외부와의 기술협력 성공요인이 무엇이고, 기술이전 성공요인이 무엇인지를 조사하는 것이었다. 본 사례연구 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존 특허를 회피하고 경쟁기술과 차별화된 무인 자동 출입증 발급 키오스크 제품을 만들기 위한 특허전략은 다음과 같았다. 우선, 기술 키워드, 기술동향 및 동의어 중심으로 관련 있는 기존 특허들을 제품 아이디어 Seed별로 분류한다. 그런 다음, 아이디어 Seed별로 수동적으로 회피할 특허와 능동적으로 회피할 특허를 구분한다. 그리고, 기존 특허에서 다루지 않는 아이디어 Seed에서는 신규 특허를 출원하는 전략을 실행한다. 둘째, 무인 자동 출입증 발급 키오스크의 성공적 개발을 위한 외부와의 협력에서, 기술협력 주체 간의 상호소통과 상호신뢰, 그리고 주체들의 기술역량(예, 부품도면의 완성도 등)이 매우 중요한 성공요인인 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 무인 자동 출입증 발급 키오스크 기술이전의 성공요인으로 기술 우수성, 최고경영자의 의지, 그리고 기존 기술과의 호환성이 중요한 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
The study analyzed a case of an R&D consulting firm that successfully developed an unmanned automatic entry card issuance kiosk through collaboration with external technology companies and successfully transferred the technology to a client company. The purpose of this case study was to investigate the patent strategy for the development of a differentiated unmanned automatic entry card issuance kiosk, identify the success factors in technical collaboration with external entities, and examine the success factors in technology transfer. The summarized results of the case study analysis are as follows. Firstly, the patent strategy for creating an unmanned automatic entry card issuance kiosk that avoids existing patents and differentiates from competing technologies includes the following steps. Initially, relevant existing patents are classified by product idea seeds based on technology keywords, trends, and synonyms. Then, patents to be passively avoided and actively avoided are distinguished for each idea seed. Additionally, for idea seeds not covered by existing patents, a strategy of filing new patents must be executed. Secondly, in the external collaboration for the successful development of the unmanned automatic entry card issuance kiosk, it was found that effective communication and mutual trust between parties involved in technical collaboration, as well as the technical capabilities of the parties (e.g., completeness of component drawings), are crucial success factors. Finally, the success factors in the technology transfer of the unmanned automatic entry card issuance kiosk include technical excellence, the determination of top management, and compatibility with existing technologies.
