중소기업의 ESG 평가지표 개선방안에 관한 연구

초록
ESG 경영이 기업의 선택이 아닌 필수적 요소로 등장하면서 기존의 대기업에 초점을 맞춘 ESG 평가지표는 이제 중소기업 특성을 고려한 별도의 ESG 평가지표의 개발도 요구하고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 중소기업(소기업 포함)의 특성에 맞도록 개선된 ESG 평가지표를 개발하여 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 국내외 16개 ESG 평가기관의 지표 및 선행연구를 취합하여 양적 분석을 수행하였고, 11명의 중소기업 ESG 전문가를 대상으로 심층면접을 통한 질적분석을 병행한바, 환경, 사회, 지배구조를 상위지표로 한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내 중소기업 ESG 평가에 적합한 지표로, 환경은 중위지표 9개, 하위지표 16개로, 사회는 중위지표 6개, 하위지표 15개로, 지배구조는 중위지표 6개, 하위지표 9개를 도출하였다. 둘째, 국내 소기업 ESG 평가에 적합한 지표로 환경은 중위지표 6개, 하위지표 9개, 사회는 중위지표 5개, 하위지표 11개, 지배구조는 중위지표 3개, 하위지표 3개를 도출하였고, 이들을 종합하여 중소기업 및 소기업에 적합한 ESG 평가지표체계를 제안하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 중소기업 및 소기업의 효율적인 ESG 경영평가의 프레임워크를 제시하고 나아가 ESG 경영 활성화를 위한 경영 전략적 시사점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study sought to improve evaluation indicators tailored to the characteristics of small and medium-sized businesses. ESG is a necessity, not an option. In addition, ESG evaluation indicators are indicators that focus on large companies and do not take into account the characteristics of small and medium-sized companies. To this end, we quantitatively analyzed 16 ESG evaluation agencies and previous studies, and conducted in-depth interviews with 11 people. The improvement measures and research results of the evaluation indicators derived through the two analysis methods are as follows. First, the ESG evaluation indicator system suitable for domestic small and medium-sized businesses is as follows. Environmental indicators were composed of 9 mid-level indicators and 16 sub-indicators. Social indicators were composed of 6 mid-level indicators and 15 sub-indicators, and governance indicators were composed of 6 mid-level indicators and 9 sub-indicators. Second, the appropriate ESG evaluation indicator system for domestic small businesses is as follows. Environmental indicators were composed of 6 mid-level indicators and 9 sub-indicators. Social indicators were composed of 5 mid-level indicators and 11 sub-indicators, and governance indicators were composed of 3 mid-level indicators and 3 sub-indicators. For that reason, we wanted to provide better opportunities for small businesses, and the fact that this study presented ESG evaluation indicators for small businesses can be said to be different from existing studies.
