2022 개정 고등학교 『국제 관계의 이해』 교육과정 개발에 대한 성찰

The 2022 revised curriculum introduced a new subject titled 'Introduction to International Relations'. Prior to this revision, in the 2015, there existed a total of 11 specialized subjects in the international category. However, with The Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in 2025, which led to the closure of international high schools, all international subjects were discontinued in the 2022 revised curriculum. ‘Introduction to International Relations’ is a new subject established in the Social Studies to replace the abolished international subjects. 'Introduction to International Relations' comprehensively addresses pivotal subjects in the international sphere, encompassing international politics, international economics, international law, and international organizations. The course endeavors to amalgamate content centered around critical issues with the underlying organizational principles of these subjects. The curriculum specifically focuses on pressing international matters, such as equitable global development, peace and security, inter-state conflicts, and their resolutions, approached from political, economic, social, and legal perspectives. It is unclear whether ‘Introduction to International Relations’ can be stably established in the high school credit system. Nonetheless, it merits consideration as the quintessential course for international studies within high school curricula, and its distinct approach as an issue-centered integrated subject is worthy of recognition.
