韓国と日本のESGやSDGsへの社会的関心や実態研究―2023年７月を基準として―

現在、私たちが直面している世界的課題はESG及びこれを通じて到達できるSDGsである。本稿では2023年7月現在、ESGやSDGsに対する韓国と日本の社会的関心を分析し、１年前と比較する。ESG関連記事(各30編)を通じてESGとSDGsとの連携、取り扱っている領域等、ESGの実態を分析し、今後の方向を提案する。何よりアジアでこれらを先進的に取り組んでいる日本と比較し、前年度の現況と比較することで、通時的分析結果が得られることを期待する。 近年韓国はESG関連資料や記事が急増したが、学術論文は日本の2分の1に過ぎず、時期的にも遅い。それに、記事の信頼度にやや問題がある。韓国は企業の「ESGランク及び受賞」が主だった前年度とは異なり、「ESG取り組み」及び「ESG報告書」が主となっている。「ESG文化･ESG観光」のような用語の乱用が目立つが、ややもするとESGウォッシュの恐れがある。さらに、依然としてESGとSDGsの連携が薄い。ESGの各領域間バランスが取れている日本に比べ、韓国はE(環境)領域が減っており、G(ガバナンス)領域は横ばい状態である。S(社会)領域は増えているが「地域共生･寄付」に片寄っている。 今後、韓国は実践しやすい分野に集中しているのを改善すべく、根本的な問題解決が必要である。なお、ESGの各領域間のバランスが必要で、ESGとSDGsが効果的に連携できるよう国家レベルの努力が要求される。
Abstract
The global challenge we are currently facing is ESG and the SDGs that can be reached through it. This study examines social interests in ESG and SDGs in Korea and Japan as of July 2023. In addition, the connection between ESG and SDGs and the status of ESG were analyzed through ESG-related articles (30 articles from each country) and future directions are suggested. A more objective and diachronic analysis is possible through comparison with the status in Japan and the previous year. In the past 2-3 years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of ESG-related data and articles in Korea, but there is a problem with the reliability of the articles. The number of academic papers is only 1/2 that of Japan, and they also lag behind in terms of timing. In Korea, unlike the previous year, when the company’s “ESG ratings and awards” were the main focus, “ESG implementation and ESG reports” are the main focus. The overuse of terms such as “ESG culture and ESG tourism” is noticeable and may cause a risk of ESG washing. According to the analysis on the articles, E (environmental) has decreased and S (social) has increased, but the focus is on “local co-prosperity and donation.” Moreover, G (governance) is at a standstill. In the future, efforts must be made to change the phenomenon of focusing on areas that are easy to practice and to solve fundamental problems. Above all, balance among ESG factors is needed, and efforts at the national level are required to improve awareness of ESG and SDGs and to ensure that ESG and SDGs are effectively linked.
