A study on Entrepreneurial Motivation, Entrepreneurial Intention, Preferred Startup Type according to the Regulatory Focus of College Students

Entrepreneurship provides a foundation for growth and leap forward that can foster innovative talent that cancreate jobs and discover new businesses and new technologies. This study can be used as data forentrepreneurship-related organizations to revitalize startups by empirically analyzing entrepreneurial motivation,entrepreneurial intention, and preferred startup types according to the regulatory focus of college students whoare prospective entrepreneurs. As a result of this study, firstly, college students with a strong promotion focustendency showed higher levels in all aspects of economic start-up motivation, non-economic start-up motivation,and start-up intention than college students with a strong defense focus tendency. Second, college students witha strong promotion focus showed a higher level of preference for independent and social enterprises thandefense focus, while they showed a higher preference for franchises with a strong defense focus. This canserve as a foundation for revitalizing entrepreneurship by further nurturing college students with apromotion-focused tendency, and by focusing on entrepreneurship education programs for independent andsocial enterprise startup types for college students with a promotion-focus, and franchise entrepreneurshipeducation programs for college students with a defense-focus.
