여성친화도시 정책과 성평등 지수의 관계에 관한 연구:광주광역시를 중심으로

The study aims to investigate whether the implementation of a women-friendly city policy influences the realization of gender equality values, using the case of Gwangju Metropolitan City. To achieve this, we analyzed the extent to which the vision and core values of the women-friendly city were put into practice in five policy areas (economic activity, decision-making, welfare, safety, and family) by employing the regional gender equality index. The results indicated that the regional gender equality index generally increased after the designation of the women-friendly city across all policy areas. However, some sub-indicators revealed that the index either remained unchanged or decreased. Specifically, the gender wage gap index in the economic activity area and the sex ratio index of housework hours and family relationship satisfaction in the family area remained at a similar level for a decade. The index of the gender ratio of basic livelihood security recipients in the welfare area and the index of the gender ratio of overall social safety in the safety area decreased. The study suggests that for the developmental direction of a women-friendly city, there needs to be modifications and improvements in institutional, cultural, and social dimensions.
