형태심리학의 다중안정성을 통한 불가능 일루전에 관한 연구 - 에셔의 석판화 <Belvedere, 1958>를 중심으로 -

본 논문은 근현대 판화 분야에서 획기적인 게슈탈트 이론을 2차원적인 드로잉이나 메조틴트, 석판화 등에 접목(적용)함으로써 현실 불가능한 일루전을 표현한 특수한 사례를 연구하는 것을 목적으로 한다.다중안정성의 모호한 지각 경험, 즉 불가능 일루전의 착시 효과 및 다른 관점 혹은 인식 전환을 강요하는 사례로는 네커 큐브와 펜로즈 삼각형이 있다. 에셔의 석판화 <Belvedere, 1958>을 비롯한 몇몇 작품 속에는 이러한 원리를 적용하여, 2차원에서는 오류 없이 구현할 수 있지만 실제로는 만들 수 없는 일루전이 형성된다. 일루전의 혼선을 초래하기 위해 기둥의 구조를 변경하고, 투시 원근법을 왜곡하여 착시 효과를 강화한다. 그리고 이렇게 뒤틀린 공간에 적절한 인물을 그려 넣어 자연스러운 공간처럼 위장한다. 작품의 성격에 따라서 펜로즈 사각형과 두 개의 펜로즈 삼각형을 복합하여 착시 효과를 강화한다. 한편, 후발 세대 작가들은 이러한 이미지를 3D로 제작하여 구조를 확인하거나, 컴퓨터 게임의 모티브나 완구의 소재로 활용하기도 하고, 가상현실적인 표현으로 이러한 내용을 확장하기도 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study special examples of the impossible illusion from the modern/contemporary Printing methods which are intermingled(adapted) 2D drawing, mezzotint and lithography with Gestalt psychology’s theory. Ambiguous experience of Gestalt psychology’s theory of multi-stability in the rule of impossible illusion compels the view point of brain to be changed another image. The two examples are the Necker Cube and Penrose triangle. Escher’s lithography <Belvedere, 1958> and others compose unreal illusion but those are possible 2D only. To confuse optical illusion, he changes the column structure and distorts the perspective rule. In these twisted spaces, he puts adaptable personages to fake us. In accordance with the characteristic of each art works, he uses Penrose square and double triangle to magnify illusive effect. Meanwhile, next generation artists identify this illusive images construction by 3D and to use it as the motive of computer game and the material of toy, and magnify it to cyber-real expression.
