시각디자인 전공교육의 산학연계형 Service Learning 교과 개발 연구 -지역 소상공인을 위한 디자인 프로보노를 중심으로-

The field of visual design, which develops creative thinking, requires expertise that encompasses a wide range of cognitive abilities and the capacity to converge with adjacent disciplines. As a result, expertise in the design industry is in urgent need of practitioners who understand the industrial field and have experience in acquiring the working environment. This study proposes a study on how service leaning education for the purpose of Design Pro Bono, which is to acquire field knowledge as a practitioner through design field experience and donate talents to local small businesses or local public organisations, will have a positive impact on society. In other words, Design Pro Bono Service Learning education hosted by universities can provide a solution to the design problems of local small businesses and provide an opportunity for concrete win-win cooperation through collaboration with local industries. The solutions, in turn, can predict how successful design solutions can be for the local economy. This study provides an example of how Design Pro Bono activities can stimulate local economies by maximising the dissemination of design practice capabilities that universities can support for the development of local commerce. This will provide an opportunity for designers to become communicators who are responsive to the needs of industry and engage with local people in proactive, collaborative design problem solving. The purpose of the Design Pro Bono Service Learning curriculum is to engage design students in active outreach activities with the local community by utilising their professional skills, and to help them expand their objective thinking, coordinate with clients, and acquire knowledge of how the design outcomes can be predicted in practice based on the challenges in the field. In addition, students will be able to demonstrate a wide range of expression techniques through the solution of practical design problems, and develop the ability to clearly recognise the process by which the field of design as a communication strategy can reach its target goals. For students, it lays the foundation for improving their knowledge and practical skills, and the design pro bono service learning education, which is an active outreach activity, can help students gradually improve their practical skills in the future. The methodology of this study was based on the reliability investigation through Likert scale analysis and external publicity through local broadcasting, and the results of this study were translated into a reliable service learning education model. The solution to the problem of designing for a comprehensive small business district in the region will eventually unfold as an opportunity for industry and academia to grow together through win-win collaboration with local universities. The outcome of this series of problem-solving solutions should result in mutual satisfaction for both participants, and should lead to a solution that immediately solves the practical problem that NPOs (non-profit organisations) with public purposes are unable to utilise their expertise due to financial difficulties. Active promotion of the university, local small and medium-sized businesses, and local broadcasting, as well as business collaboration with NPOs, is expected to have a positive impact on the university’s growth as a university that contributes to the local community by involving the university’s service leaning education in design pro bono.
