본 연구는 중소기업의 경영형태와 가업승계가 재무 성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 기업의 경영형태는 소유경영자와 전문경영인으로 분류하였고, 가업승계는 경영권이 가족에게 승계 된 경우와 타 법인에 인수된 경우로 나누어 분석하였다. 그리고 승계자의 동종업계 경험이나 연령, 승계까지 소요된 기간 등의 승계 특성이 경영형태 및 가업승계와 승계기업의 재무 성과 사이의 관계 를 어떻게 조절하는지 추가로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중소기업 의 경영형태에 있어 전문경영인 체제가 소유경영보다 재무 성과가 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 가업승계에 있어 승계가 인수보다 수익성과 안정성은 높으나 매출액 성장성은 더 낮게 나타났다. 셋째, 가업승계가 성장성에 미치는 음의 영향은 승계자의 동종업종 경험이 풍부하거나 승계까지 소 요된 기간이 길수록 완화되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 중소기업 중 높은 비중을 차지하는 소유경영이 전문경영인 기업보다 재무 성과가 낮을 수 있으나, 2세 경영에 있어 타 법인에 인수되기보다 승계가 이루어진 경우 더욱 긍정적인 재무 성 과가 나타남을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 중소기업의 지속가능성을 위해 가업승계가 긍정적인 요소로 작용할 수 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study explores the impact of management and succession types on the financial performance of SMEs. Management types are classified into owner-managed and professionally managed, while succession types are distinguished between family succession and acquisition by other corporations. Additionally, the study investigates how succession characteristics such as the successor’s industry experience, age, and the duration of the succession, moderate the relationship between management types, succession types, and the financial performance of successor firms. Our empirical results are as follows. Professional managers exhibit higher financial performance compared to owner-managers. Family succession leads to higher profitability and stability but lower growth compared to succession through acquisition. The negative impact of succession on growth is mitigated when the successor has extensive industry experience or when the succession process is prolonged. The study suggests that promoting family succession could enhance the sustainability of the Korean SMEs.
