초록
본 연구는 한국사회 이혼의 급증과 더불어 교회 내 이혼의 증가 추세 현상에 대한 한국교회의 역할에 대하여 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 우리나라의 이혼건수는 결혼건수 대비 절반에 육박하는 높은 비율을 나타내고 있고, 한국교회의 이혼율 역시 매우 높은 수준을 보이고 있다. 포스트모더니즘의 다원성 중시로 인한개인주의의 확대, 무한경쟁의 신자유주의, 4차 산업혁명 시대의 물신숭배 등 현대사회의 특징과 더불어 한국사회의 가족 개념이 개인주의적 관점으로 변화하며 이혼이 증가하고 있는데, 이는 성격차이와 성적 욕구의차이, 여성의 경제적 지위 상승 및 독립성의 증가, 사회구조와 개인의 역할 변화 등으로 인해 가속되고 있다. 구약성경은 신명기 법전을 통해 남편이 아내에게 이혼증서를 써 주고 아내를 내보낼 수 있도록 하고 있으나 예수 그리스도는 그러한 이혼의 허용이 인간의 죄성에 기인한 것이며 하나님의 본래적 창조섭리는 온전한 가정을 이루는 것임을 분명히 하셨다. 특히 초대교회 당시 여성의 인권이 보장되지 못하는 상황에서사회적 약자인 여성을 보호하는 차원에서 차선의 방법으로 이혼이 허용된 것이라는 사실은 복음의 원리가가정에 반영되어야 한다는 사실이 사도 바울에 의하여 재천명되었다. 따라서 이혼과 관련한 한국교회의 역할은 결혼을 제도적 관행으로 보는 것이 아니라 성경적 사랑의 원리로 조명하는 의미 제고를 통한 이혼 예방, 이혼 과정에 개입하여 가정 폭력을 방지하고, 법률과 재정 자문 및 상담 서비스를 제공하는 한편, 자녀와 양측 가족에 대한 돌봄의 제공, 그리고 이혼 가정의 회복을 위한 프로그램과 재정지원 등을 수행하는 것이다. 무엇보다 한국교회는 바리새적 율법주의에 근거한 정죄 의식을 배제하고 복음의 관점에서 이혼 당사자들와 자녀 및 가족들이 이혼이라는 인생의 결정을 통해 하나님의 사랑 안에 거하도록 하는 사역을 경주하여야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study examines the role of Korean churches in addressing the rising divorcerates both within their congregations and in broader Korean society. In Korea, nearly50 percent of marriages end in divorce, and this trend is increasingly evident withinChristian communities as well. Factors contributing to this high divorce rate includethe spread of individualism influenced by postmodernism, the relentless competition ofneoliberalism, the commodity fetishism of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and shiftsin family dynamics. These contemporary issues, combined with traditional causes suchas personality differences, sexual incompatibility, the enhanced economic status ofwomen, and changes in social structures and individual roles, have exacerbated thedivorce rate. The Old Testament allows husbands to issue certificates of divorce, yetJesus highlights that this provision stems from humanity’s sinful nature, contrastingwith God’s original intent for marriage, which upholds its indissolubility. The ApostlePaul also acknowledges divorce among Christians, considering it a second-best optionto protect the basic human rights of women. Korean churches must emphasize thebiblical understanding of marriage to prevent divorce and domestic violence, offerlegal, financial, and counseling services during the divorce process, and provideongoing support for divorced families. Above all, churches should move away from alegalistic perspective of condemnation and instead offer compassionate care todivorced families, grounded in the gospel message.
