한국교회의 이웃 사랑 실천과 사회적 책임: 예수님의 가르침을 중심으로

This study re-examines the practice of neighborly love according to Jesus’ teachingsand the social responsibility of the Korean church. It aims to propose specificmeasures for how the Korean church can demonstrate and practice God’s love in thecommunity. The findings are as follows:Firstly, regarding the historical background of Korean Christianity and the perceptionof citizenship and social responsibility in Korean Protestantism post-COVID-19, it wasfound that while Korean Protestantism played a significant role in modernization andthe establishment of democracy, the pandemic revealed a weakening in citizenship andsocial responsibility. Secondly, an analysis of the perception of the value of neighborlylove, the role of volunteer activities, social responsibility, and the state of churchsolidarity in Korean churches revealed low value recognition for social serviceactivities and a lack of solidarity among churches. Finally, practical implications forthe restoration of churches that love God and neighbors as themselves were drawnfrom Calvin’s emphasis on the church’s social responsibility and the example of theearly church. These include the need for modern churches to specialize in socialservice organizations, expand institutional support for the socially vulnerable, andemphasize the social responsibility of believers in their daily lives. This study suggeststhat the Korean church should reaffirm its essential mission of loving God andneighbors, practice social service, and strengthen its solidarity with the community toconvey God’s love effectively.
