Analyzing Core Technology and Technological Convergence in the Port Industry Using IPC Classification Codes and Network Analysis

This study aims to explore trends in domestic port technology development and the interrelationships among port-related technologies through a comprehensive keyword analysis of port patents. Utilizing patent data spanning from 1986 to 2024, this study systematically analyzes core technologies within the port industry. Trend analysis revealed a significant increase in port-related patents between 1998 and 2008, followed by a sharp rise from 2009 to 2011, and consistently high levels of patent activity since 2017. IPC classification frequency analysis highlighted key areas such as data processing (G06Q) and waterborne vessels (B63B). Word cloud analysis identified key terms such as information, data, logistics, marine, and safety. Furthermore, network analysis underscored the integration of these technologies, particularly emphasizing the critical role of data processing and automation in enhancing port management efficiency. This study provides essential insights that can inform future policy decisions and guide research and development (R&D) efforts within the port industry.
