This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the Anti-ESG Movement in the United States, tracing its emergence, ideological underpinnings, and legislative developments. It delves into the contrast between the increasing global emphasis on ESG factors in business and investment decisions and the growing opposition to this trend within the United States. The research examines the ideological divide between liberal and conservative viewpoints, economic motivations focused on protecting specific industries like fossil fuels, and legal complexities involving fiduciary duties and concerns about greenwashing. It also explores the political, economic, and legal prospects of the movement, especially in light of the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election, and its implications on global ESG policies and corporate strategies. The article concludes with insights into how these dynamics affect international business practices, particularly in South Korea, offering guidance for navigating the evolving ESG landscape.
