A Study on AI-Integrated Telemedicine in the Era of Regional Decline

강기봉(서강대학교)

35권 3호, 95~123쪽

초록

Regions excluding the metropolitan area are experiencing a gradual population decline, which is expected to lead to the disappearance of essential elements such as healthcare. Currently, remote areas such as islands and rural areas already suffer from low accessibility to medical facilities, prompting the government to address these gaps through pilot projects. Against this backdrop, this paper examines issues related to the discussion in this paper and explores the significance of telemedicine, relevant cases, and the utilization of AI(artificial intelligence) systems as an auxiliary means of diagnosis. While it is difficult to prevent population decline, it remains necessary to provide medical services to residential areas and local residents scattered across various regions. By employing data mining on big data to analyze and predict medical demand, it would be possible to offer at least the minimum essential medical services, with AI potentially playing a significant role. While untact medical services are currently being provided through pilot projects, AI could be an effective tool in diagnosing and treating specific diseases even under the current legal framework. For instance, the early detection and treatment of pneumonia in infants and children are crucial. However, local health centers may struggle to diagnose and respond to these cases precisely, potentially leading to the loss of precious lives. AI, as an auxiliary tool to a doctor's primary diagnosis, can suggest the possibility of specific diseases, enabling early detection and response through telemedicine. Early detection could allow for the transfer of emergency patients to higher-level hospitals for appropriate treatment. Furthermore, providing such medical services might help slow or prevent regional population decline by creating a conducive environment for childbirth and reducing population migration.
