As the Minimum Wage Act currently does not stipulate platform workers as applicable targets. With the increasing trend of labor-related laws aimed at better protecting platform workers being strengthened, the debate on the application of the minimum wage system to platform workers is not a surprising consequence. Since the right to be guaranteed with the minimum wage is the most fundamental and basic labor right, the argument that the minimum wage should be guaranteed to platform workers is valid. On the premise of a sufficient level of protection of laborers, it is necessary to prepare a minimum wage system to protect platform workers. In this regard, laws and regulations in foreign countries that apply separate minimum-related-provisions to platform workers can be used as references. Platform workers are composed of people with various occupations, and their working conditions and environment vary widely. Therefore, it seems difficult to apply a uniform, one-size-fits-all minimum wage system to all platform workers, simultaneously. Occupations that urgently need to be applied with the minimum wage system include jobs in delivery, transport, driving, household chores, cleaning, and caretaking industries. Meanwhile, efforts should be made to engage and reflect the opinions of platform workers and stakeholders in the process of designing and operating the minimum wage system for platform workers.
