The study aim to propose a new cover design for the academic journal Design Works through a case study of existing design journal covers. Given the lack of prior research focused on academic journal design, this study aims to provide insights by examining the current state of journal cover design and suggesting a more efficient approach to its production. The study also highlights the importance of further research and attention to academic journal design. The research involved collecting and analyzing cover designs from both domestic and international academic journals in the field of design. The analysis identified two main characteristics. First, the designs conveyed a sense of trust. Second, strong design rules were typically applied to maintain a unified visual identity. Based on these findings, the researcher classified the journal covers into three categories according to the strength of the design rules. In conclusion, the researcher determined that applying simple yet strict design rules, rather than allowing complete freedom for each issue, would be more suitable for the new cover design of Design Works . The final design utilized high-saturation color combinations and flexible images to reflect contemporary design research while adhering to predetermined rules to convey a futuristic sensibility.
