A Study on the Characteristics of Image-Generative AI Services as Design Tools and Applicability in Graphic Design Education

The aim of this study is to identify the characteristics of image-generative AI as a design tool and to explore its applicability in graphic design education. This study identifies the characteristics observed in cases of image-generative AI and conducts evaluations with design major students to determine the most preferred image-generative AI service and the factors influencing their preferences. Subsequently, in-depth interviews with experts in the field of visual design were conducted to analyze the student evaluation data. This analysis identified services that could be suitably applied to the graphic design education curriculum. By exploring the feasibility of such applications, this study proposes a new graphic design education curriculum incorporating image-generative AI services. This reflects the requirements of both learners and educators, aiming to provide a balanced educational environment. It is believed that these findings can serve as foundational data for systematizing the direction of future design education. Additionally, by providing educational resources to enhance learning, this study aims to maximize students' learning efficiency and strengthen their digital competencies in preparation for the future.
