지속가능성보고서의 인증 유형이 자본비용에 미치는 영향

초록
본 연구는 지속가능성 공시에 대한 신뢰성을 높일 수 있도록 국내 지속가능성 공시 제3자 검증규율체계 수립 시 참고할 수 있는 유용한 정보를 제공해 주는 것을 목적으로 지속가능성 보고서관련 자기자본비용에 미치는 영향을 실증분석한다. 5개의 제3자 인증(검증)기준의 적용 여부가 자기자본비용에 미치는 영향 분석결과 ‘AA1000APS’ 및 ‘VeriSustainTM1’ 인증기준의 적용이 이 부(－)의 관련성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 해당 인증기준을 적용하고 있는 비재무정보보고서(지속가능보고서)가 발간되는 경우, 자기자본비용이 감소할것을 시사한다. 이와 같은 본 연구의 분석결과는 지속가능보고서의 효과를 높이기 위해서는 제한적 확신이 아닌합리적 확신의 인증수준이 요구될 것으로 판단되는 바이다. 또한, 검증기준이 글로벌 수준으로 확대될 때, 인증수준의 효과가 의미가 있음을 시사하는 결과로 판단된다. 이러한 연구의 분석결과는향후 국내 지속가능성 공시 인증 체계를 수립하는데 많은 이해관계자들에게 도움을 줄 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
This study aims to provide useful information that can be used as a reference when establishing a domestic third－party verification system for sustainability disclosures to increase the reliability of sustainability disclosures, and empirically analyzes the impact on the cost of equity capital related to sustainability reports. The results of the analysis of the impact of the application of five third－party certification (verification) criteria on the cost of capital show that the application of the ‘AA1000APS’ and ‘VeriSustainTM1’ certification criteria has a high negative correlation. This suggests that the cost of equity capital will decrease when a non－financial information report (sustainability report) that applies the relevant certification criteria is published. The results of this study suggest that a certification level of reasonable assurance, not limited assurance, is required to increase the effectiveness of sustainability reports. In addition, the results suggest that the effect of the certification level is meaningful when the verification criteria are expanded to the global level. The analysis results of this study are expected to be helpful to many stakeholders in establishing a domestic sustainability disclosure certification system in the future.
