Technological Trends in Golf Industry Patents and Utility Models Using Semantic Network Analysis

This study aimed to analyze technological trends in golf industry patents and utility models using semantic network analysis. To achieve this, key keywords were extracted from the abstracts of 9,056 golf-related patents and utility models filed between 1973 and 2024, as provided by the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS). Through semantic network analysis, technological trends in patents were identified, leading to the following conclusions: First, keyword analysis revealed that terms such as 'invention,' 'golf,' 'information,' 'provision,' 'user,' 'device,' 'location,' 'golf ball,' 'system,' and 'use' appeared with high frequency. These results indicated that key technological trends centered on topics such as user location information systems, golf equipment and clubs, golf course turf management, and screen golf. Second, semantic network analysis showed that keywords like 'invention,' 'golf,' 'provision,' 'information,' 'device,' 'user,' 'golf ball,' 'use,' and 'location' had high centrality. This confirmed that technologies related to golf ball inventions and user location information provision systems are major trends. It was concluded that golf-related technologies are increasingly focused on information systematization. In conclusion, the technological trends in the golf industry were found to be concentrated on the systematization of information.
