BERTopic 기반의 계층적 클러스터링을 활용한 자율주행차량 기술 동향 연구: 특허데이터 분석을 중심으로

본 연구는 1990년부터 2024년까지 등록 및 소멸된 자율주행차량 특허 9,164건을 대상으로 BERTopic 기반의 계층적 클러스터링을 통해 자율주행차량 기술 동향을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 자율주행차량 기술의 주요 토픽들이 추출되었으며, 계층적 클러스터링을 바탕으로 기술 요소를 구분하였다. 특히, 기존의 특허 분류 체계에서 파악하기 어려웠던 자율주행차량의 세부 기술 요소를 확인하였으며, 중분류와 소분류별 기술을 기준으로 자율주행차량 기술의 발전 추이를 분석하고 최근의 기술 동향을 파악하였다. 주요한 분석 내용으로는 ‘고성능을 위한 열 관리 및 구조 최적화 설계 기술’ 중 하위 기술 요소인‘열 관리 및 냉각 시스템 관리 기술’이 연도별 추이를 살펴보았을 때 급격한 증가 추이를 보여 최근의동향으로써 확인하였다. 따라서, 특허 분석에서 기술 분류 체계 구성에 BERTopic 기법을 하나의 방법론으로 제안할 수 있음을보여주며, 자동화된 텍스트 분석 기법을 통해 시간과 비용을 절감하고 향후 다른 융합기술 분야에서도적용 가능하다. 또한, 4차 산업혁명 新특허분류 체계에선 파악하기 어려웠던 세부 기술을 확인하였으며 수정 단계에 있는 해당 체계의 보완에 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다. 실무적으로는 자율주행차량 기술 분야에서 R&D 전략 수립 및 특허 포트폴리오 관리에 유용한 정보를 제공하며, 기업과 정부 기관이자율주행차량 기술의 발전 방향을 예측하고 전략적 의사 결정을 내리는 데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
This study investigates trends in autonomous vehicle technology by employing hierarchical clustering based on BERTopic. The study analyzes a total of 9,164 patents registered and expired between 1990 and 2024. The analysis identifies key topics and technological components, including sub-technologies that pose challenges for classification within existing patent frameworks. Notably, the study finds a rapid increase in the use of thermal management and cooling system management technology, which is essential for high-performance vehicle design. The findings indicate that the BERTopic approach is an effective methodology for patent classification, facilitating time and cost savings through automated text analysis. The study also offers insights into the detailed technologies relevant to the evolving patent classification system of the 4th Industrial Revolution. These insights offer valuable guidance for R&D strategy development, patent portfolio management, and strategic decision-making in the autonomous vehicle sector.
