VRIO Framework를 활용한 비영리스타트업의 지속가능성에 미치는 영향 요인에 관한 연구: 늘픔가치 사례를 중심으로

코로나19 팬데믹 이후 사회적 경제 영역에 대한 사회적 관심은 더욱 증대되면서 비영리 생태계 내에서도 다양한 유형과 성격의 조직들이 새롭게 등장하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 맥락에서 비영리조직의 공공성 특성과 스타트업의 혁신성이 결합된‘비영리스타트업’조직에 주목하고, 이를 중심으로 지속가능성에 미치 는 영향 요인을 살펴보았다. 연구 대상은 비영리스타트업으로 활동 중인 ‘늘픔가치’를 단일사례연구로 선정 하여 문헌조사, 인터뷰, 관찰 등의 방법을 통해 심층 분석하였다. 분석 결과 늘픔가치는 다음과 같은 특성 을 보였다. 첫째, 가치성(Value) 측면에서 지역 사회의 의약품 안전성이라는 공익적 가치를 기반으로 사회 문제 해결과 경제적, 사회적 임팩트를 창출하며, 조직의 기회를 창출하고 있다. 둘째, 희소성(Rarity) 측면에 서는 전문 약사들이 직접 지역 사회와 연계된 활동을 수행하는 독특한 형태를 통해 차별화를 이루고 있다. 셋째, 모방불가능성(Imitability) 측면에서 늘픔가치는 자체 구축한 조직 생태계를 통해 형성된 높은 수준의 사회적 관계망이 타 조직이 쉽게 모방할 수 없는 우위를 제공하고 있다. 마지막으로 조직화(Organization) 관점에서 스타트업의 특성을 내재한 신속한 의사결정 구조와 피드백 시스템, 효율적인 자원 확보 및 운영 역량이 시장의 변화에 대한 기민한 대응과 조직의 지속가능성 강화에 기여하고 있다. 종합적으로 살펴보면 늘픔가치는 VRIO 분석으로 확인한 가치, 희소성, 모방불가능성, 조직화를 기반으로 경제적 안정화 전략, 사 회적 가치 증진, 조직 내부 역량 및 혁신성 강화, 네트워크 확장과 제도적 연계성을 확보하는 종합적 접근 을 통해 지속가능성을 모색하고 있다. 이는 초기 비영리스타트업이 명확한 사회적 미션을 중심으로 장기적 관점에서 자체 역량을 축적하고, 다변화된 자원 네트워크를 활용하며, 성장해나갈 수 있음을 실증하는 사례 이다. 본 연구는 국내 비영리스타트업의 개별 자원과 역량을 VRIO 프레임워크를 통해 살펴보고 향후 유사 한 조직들이 지속 가능한 성장을 이루기 위해 필요한 전략적 방향성을 제안하는 초기 연구로서의 의의를 가진다.
Abstract
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, societal interest in the social economy has surged, leading to the emergence of diverse organizations with varying characteristics within the nonprofit sector. Within this evolving landscape, this study directs attention to “nonprofit startups”, which integrate the public- interest attributes of nonprofits with the innovative qualities of startups. Focusing on the single-case study of “Neulpeum Gachi”, a nonprofit startup, this research examines the factors influencing organizational sustainability through an in-depth analysis of documents, interviews, and field observations. The findings highlight four key attributes identified through the VRIO framework. First, from the perspective of Value, the organization leverages its public-interest commitment to pharmaceutical safety in local communities, addressing societal challenges and creating both economic and social impact. Second , regarding Rarity, it distinguishes itself through a unique operational model in which professional pharmacists directly engage with community stakeholders. Third, concerning Inimitability, the organization’s self-constructed ecosystem cultivates a robust social network that is difficult for other entities to replicate. Lastly, considering Organization, Neulpeum Gachi demonstrates agile decision-making structures, responsive feedback mechanisms, and adept resource management that enable it to adapt swiftly to changing market conditions, thereby reinforcing its sustainability. By drawing upon the VRIO framework, the study illustrates how Neulpeum Gachi pursues sustainability through a comprehensive approach encompassing economic stabilization strategies, the enhancement of social value, the strengthening of internal capabilities and innovation capacity, and the expansion of networks and institutional ties. This case provides empirical evidence that early-stage nonprofit startups can accumulate distinctive competencies, leverage diverse resource networks, and achieve long-term growth while remaining anchored to a clear social mission. As an initial inquiry into the strategic orientations that foster sustainable growth in emerging nonprofit startups, this studyoffers strategic insights for nonprofit startups operating in dynamic social and economic contexts.
