초록
This study aimed to design a creative art mask based on the works of Yayoi Kusama. Three art masks were designed on face model paper masks. As design motifs for each work, formative characteristics were analyzed and selected from the early, middle, and late periods of Yayoi Kusama’s portfolio catalog. According to the characteristics of Yayoi Kusama’s work, Work I, ‘Restriction’, expressed the trapped mind, conflict and restricted ego, and the depressed and oppressed inner mind. Work II, ‘Freedom’, expressed activity, freedom, dynamism, vitality, strong will, and the passionate inner self. Work III, ‘Creation’, expressed stability, determination, balance, trust, harmony, and a stable self. Each art mask was created using both freehand and a stencil technique using an airbrush on each paper mask worn by a face model. Stamping and pictorial techniques were also used. The equipment and materials used included an airbrush gun, a compressor, paper masks, acrylic paints, and stencils. In conclusion, it was possible to convey a visually strong message through the production of the work, and to present the possibility of creative art mask design to express the artist's inner mind.
