Research on Photograph in Tourism: A Bibliometric Analysis and Research Agenda

Purpose - This study presents a bibliometric analysis of research trends in tourism photographs over the past two decades, providing insights into publication patterns, key contributors, and emerging topics. The analysis utilized citation metrics, bibliographic coupling analysis, and keyword co-occurrence and also includes thematic map to identify key contributors and trends. Design/methodology/approach - VOSviewer and Biblioshiny were employed to construct and visualize the networks. Of the 1,250 articles from Web of Science, 147 final articles were used and analyzed. Findings - Three clusters formed: 1) social media-related topics; 2) destination image; and 3) tourist behavior. In addition, the thematic map highlights niche themes (i.e., deep learning, photo-elicitation, semiotics) and emerging themes (i.e., eye-tracking, experimental design, emotions) for future agenda in this field of research. Research implications or Originality - The findings shed light for researchers and managerial to identify key areas of collaboration and focus for future innovation.
