차량용 디스플레이에 적용되는 시야각 제어 기술의 특허 동향 분석

초록
디스플레이 산업이 빠르게 발전하면서 차량 내에서도 다양한 디스플레이 소자들이 정보 표시 기능을 담당하고 있다. 차량 내 디스플레이의 수요가 증가하면서 운전자가 디스플레이를 바라보았을 때의 시인성을 조절하는 시야각 제어 기술은 차량용 디스플레이 소자들의 핵심 기술로서 연구되고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 시야각 제어 기술을 주제로 2000년 1월 1일부터 2024년 6월 15일까지 출원된 시야각 제어 기술에 대해 한국, 미국, 중국을 대상으로 특허를 검색하였고, 국가별/디스플레이 소자별/기술별 특허 출원 동향을 파악하고, 주요 기술별 특허를 분석하였다. 국가별 출원 현황 및 디스플레이 소자별 출원 현황 분석 결과, 2000년대 초반에 한국이 가장 많은 특허를 출원했고, 2010년 이후로 중국의 특허 출원 수가 급증하였고, 2000년대에는 LCD 소자의 사용이 주를 이루었으나 2010년대 이후에는 OLED 소자로 전환되는 흐름을 보였다. 디스플레이 소자의 종류에 따라 적용되는 시야각 제어 기술은 상이하며 2000년대 초반에는 LCD 소자에 전기적, 구조적 제어 방식이 적용되었고, 2010년대 이후로 OLED 소자에 화학적, 광학적 제어 방식이 주로 적용되었음을 기술별 출원 현황 분석 결과에서 확인할 수 있다. 마지막으로 국가별로 출원된 주요 기술별 특허 수를 비교해 보면 한국은 구조적 제어, 미국은 광학적 제어, 중국은 전기적 제어나 화학적 제어 방식에 주력하고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 본 논문을 통하여 관련 산업에 종사하는 연구자들이 차량용 디스플레이의 시야각 제어 기술의 특허 동향을 파악하여, 차세대 차량용 디스플레이의 시야각 제어 기술을 고안하고 개발하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
The display industry is developing rapidly, and various display elements are responsible for information display in automobiles. Viewing angle control technology regulates visibility when the driver looks at the screen, making it a core technology for automotive display devices as demand increases. This paper searched for patents on viewing angle control technologies in Korea, the United States, and China filed between 2000 and 2024. The trends in patent applications according to country, technology, and display device were identified. The key results of the analysis show that Korea filed the most patents in the early 2000s. China's numbers increased rapidly from 2010, and the use of LCDs and OLEDs increased rapidly in the 2000s and 2010s, respectively. The analysis of patent applications according to technology shows that the viewing angle control technology applied to different types of display devices varies, with different methods applied to LCD and OLED devices. A comparison of patent applications per technology per country revealed a focus on structural control in Korea, optical control in the US, and electrical or chemical control in China. This paper will help automotive industry researchers understand patent trends in automotive viewing angle control technology.
