Abstract Securing traffic safety for the elderly is also an important issue at the moment when entering the super-aged society. In order to secure traffic safety for the elderly, it is necessary to consider both the aspect of protecting the elderly from becoming the victim of a traffic accident and preventing the elderly driver from becoming the perpetrator of the traffic accident and causing damage. In order to secure traffic safety for the recent elderly, it is encouraging for the traffic safety of the elderly that the state or local governments produce and distribute "elderly driver signs" to prevent safe driving and traffic accidents of elderly drivers, and that elderly drivers can drive with signs attached to them. Furthermore, in order to protect the elderly from the risk of traffic accidents, it is a step forward for the traffic safety of the elderly by designating a protection zone for the elderly so that they can restrict or prohibit the passage of cars and streetcars. As accidents of elderly drivers occur frequently, various policies are being implemented to voluntarily return their driver's licenses. It is also important for each local government to enact ordinances related to the return of driver's licenses for the elderly to induce voluntary return of driver's licenses and to increase the effectiveness of policies through various incentives. On the other hand, efforts of each local government to guarantee the right to move for elderly drivers are also important. In particular, the free bus operation in alienated areas of rural areas or the operation of cars for the weak in the region is considered to be a policy that guarantees the right to move for the elderly and at the same time helps traffic safety. In addition, education and publicity for traffic safety for elderly drivers are important, but awareness of traffic safety should be raised among all members of society to establish a safe traffic culture.
