A Study on the Trends of Countermeasures for Privacy Protection in E-Commerce

Purpose – This study aims to explore the importance of personal data protection in the e-commerce environment and to analyze trends in international regulations while proposing effective application strategies for businesses. The research focuses on major regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and PIPL, as well as international principles established by organizations like OECD and APEC. Design/Methodology/Approach – The study employs literature reviews and case studies to compare and analyze major personal data protection frameworks. It presents corporate application strategies, including compliance with legal requirements, technological measures like encryption and anonymization, and methods to build customer trust through transparency and certification systems. Findings – Personal data protection is identified as a critical factor for corporate trust and sustainability, extending beyond mere legal compliance to become a strategic tool for competitive advantage. The study underscores the need for global standardization and multilateral cooperation to ensure the interoperability of regulations and smooth international data flow. Research Implications – Businesses should establish robust personal data protection policies, regularly audit data processing activities, and enhance security through advanced technological solutions. Transparent communication and the leveraging of certification programs are essential to gaining customer trust. Additionally, providing financial and technical support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can enable the effective implementation of regulations.
