PBL 활용 항공서비스영어실무 교과의 수업설계 모형개발

This research investigates a case that Problem-Based Learning (PBL) was applied to Practice Airline Service English of the department of Airline Service at a four-year University. The purpose of this PBL learning and study was to help learners to understand the job of the flight attendant, unexpected in-flight situations and practical in-flight service English in order to finally enhance English ability of the future cabin attendants. As PBL was applied to the classes for 5 times among 15 weeks of a lecture-style class, the students showed the higher education satisfaction as well as an active participation and initiative compared to the 100% lecture-style class. The students’ interests and understanding in practical airline service English and the job of cabin attendants were enhanced through problem posting, topic-based problem-solving activities, presentation and feed-back, and role-play presentation according to the analysis of self-assessment, peer assessment and PBL post-survey collection. Based on this case study, it was finally proved that the instructor needs to develop more specific in-flight scenarios, practices of problem solving as well as various evaluation methods for the effective operation of Problem- Based Learning(PBL). This research suggests that it needs to further study how PBL effects on some effectiveness such as self-directed learning ability and academic self-efficiency through the quantitative assessment method and broad data collection apart from evaluating the attendance, learning competency, education satisfaction. Moreover, this study and model development of PBL application will be utilized as a guideline for the effective operation for some subjects related to the airline cabin practice, airline service English, and foreign language courses.
