활옷의 조형성을 활용한 헤어아트 장신구 디자인 연구

This This study aims to explore the potential for integrating traditional Korean culture with the modern beauty industry by developing hair art accessories inspired by the chromatic and structural aesthetics of hwalot, the ceremonial robe of the Joseon dynasty. Hwalot symbolizes auspiciousness and embodies the essence of Korean aesthetics with its intricate patterns and vibrant colors. By reinterpreting its traditional elements with a contemporary perspective, this study proposes innovative and creative designs. The research analyzed the structural features of hwalot through literature review and case studies, resulting in the design of four hair art accessories. Each piece draws inspiration from hwalot preserved at the National Museum of Korea, Ewha Womans University’s restored collection, Dankook University’s Seok Juseon Memorial Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum. These works incorporate traditional patterns and motifs, such as flowers, lotus blossoms, and pomegranates, to convey symbolic meanings of prosperity, longevity, and harmony. The designs further integrate these elements into modern aesthetics, showcasing the visual harmony between tradition and innovation. The findings of this study demonstrate the practical applications of traditional culture in contemporary design and contribute to the expansion of hair art as an artistic field beyond beauty techniques. Despite limitations in materials and consumer evaluation, future research should explore a wider range of traditional motifs, utilize AI and digital technologies for design innovation, and analyze market responses. This approach seeks to continuously merge traditional culture with the modern beauty industry while laying the groundwork for globalizing Korean aesthetics.
