사회적경제조직의 여성인력개발: 제주 한림수직 사례연구

Jeju Island in the 1950s bore the scars of modern Korean history, including the tragedies of the Jeju April Third uprising and the Korean War, as well as widespread poverty. In 1954, Father Patrick James McGlinchey, an Irish member of the Missionary Society of St. Columban, arrived in Jeju and established St. Isidore Farm, initiating various regional development projects. Among these initiatives, Hallim Textile, founded in 1959 by the St. Isidore Rural Development Association, emerged as a successful social economy enterprise that provided local women with weaving skills and secure employment opportunities. Despite its significance in developing women's resources and regional economic growth, Hallim Textile remains relatively unknown among scholars and has yet to be closely examined in academic discourse. This study aims to comprehensively analyze Hallim Textile through the lens of women's resource development. Specifically, this article has two primary objectives: first, this paper examines the human development practices implemented by Hallim Textile historically, and second, to explore how the enterprise was able to pioneer progressive women's resource development practices within the socio-economic context of its time. The case of Hallim Textile offers critical insights into the role of social economy principles in fostering innovative women's resource development practices while generating economic and social impacts.
