Melamine based polymers are considered to be efficient inhibitors as they form protection layer on the surface ofmetal and minimizes the interactions between the aggressive solutions and the metal surface. Amorphous andcost effective covalent organic polymer based on melamine (MDB) was synthesized by facile single step usinghydrothermal approach. The authenticity of the synthesized compound MDB was established using variousanalytical techniques, including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) studies were carried out to study the synthesized polymericstructure of MDB. Thermogravimetric analysis was used to explore the thermal stability of MDB. The surfacemorphology of MDB was explored using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), EDS and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The corrosion inhibition effect of MDB towards mild steel in 5 % HCl was examined using potentiodynamicpolarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) where MDB exhibited 87.61 % inhibition efficiencyat 298 K and 1 mg/mL concentration. The photophysical studies were carried out to check the sensingbehaviour of MDB towards different analytes (i.e. ROS and metal ions) and it was found to be having highsensitivity and selectivity towards m-CPBA with the detection limit of 7.5 μM.
