초록
This study aimed to develop textile pattern designs by applying the Archimedean tiling technique based on compositional characteristics and symbolic meanings of the Baekje Munyangjeon and present women’s clothing designs incorporating such patterns. This research demonstrates that, apart from its distinct quality and excellent value as a traditional cultural archetype, the Baekje Munyangjeon is a valuable resource that can be used for practical commercialization as it is easily accessible in daily life. This research was conducted through a theoretical examination of the concept of the Baekje Munyangjeon and the Archimedean tiling technique based on literature review and previous studies. The motifs’ compositional characteristics and symbolic meanings were analyzed based on actual samples and photos of the Baekje Munyangjeon. Based on examination results, appropriate design motifs for the research objective were selected and later stylized and arranged in regular polygons according to the Archimedean tiling technique. A base area was then set by inserting additional regular polygon shapes. The color palette, which was reconfigured by integrating trendy colors in 2024, was shifted horizontally following the arrangement to develop six types of textile patterns. To verify practical applicability of the developed textile patterns, three women’s clothing designs were developed. Designs were presented using the CLO 3D program to conduct a preference survey after incorporating of textile patterns into women’s clothing designs. Three textile patterns that garnered high preference scores in the survey were then selected and printed using DTP to produce three women’s clothing designs.
