자기의 저자권을 주장하는 여성의 고백: 나혜석의 「이혼 고백장」을 중심으로

이 글은 여성이 일인칭으로 자신의 삶과 행위에 대해 회고하거나 고백하는 자기 서사의 문화적․정치적 의미를 나혜석의 「이혼 고백장-청구씨에게」(『삼천리』, 1934. 8~9)를 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. 오랫동안 ‘익명성’은 여성을 표현하는 데 걸맞는 단어였다고 할 만큼 여성들의 자서전 전통은 남성들에 비해 약하지만, 여성들의 자서전은 “여성들이 문화의 장에서 지워졌거나 남성적 재현 질서 바깥에 떠돌던 여성들의 경험과 목소리를 드러내고 여성들의 이야기를 역사에 기입하는 실천이자, 페미니스트 지식을 구성해 낼 수 있는 문화적 원천”이라는 점에서 주목되어야 한다. 국문학을 여성중심적으로 읽기 위해서는 여성의 삶에 대한 자기 기록을 찾아내는 한편으로 상투적 비평 행위의 해석 틀에 거리를 두고 여성의 글을 새롭게 읽어내야 한다. 나혜석의 「이혼 고백장」은 그저 개인적인 고백에 그치는 것이 아니라 사적 경험을 보다 직접적으로 공적 영역―다수의 독자들이 읽고 향유하고 비판하는 독서 공동체라는 영역―에 재현함으로써 식민지 조선의 여성 현실을 공론화하는 한편으로 자기에 대한 진실에 도달하고자 하는 성찰적 글쓰기로 분석될 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This article aims to examine the social and political meaning of self-authors in which women reflect on or confess their lives and actions in the first person, focusing on Na Hye-seok's “A Confession of Divorce” (Samcheon-ri 1934.8-9). Although the tradition of women's autobiographies is weaker than that of men, it has long been said that “anonymous” has been a suitable word for expressing women, but women's autobiographies are “the practice of women revealing women's experiences and voices that have been erased from the field of culture or floating outside the masculine representation order, and writing women's stories into history, as well as a cultural source for constructing feminist knowledge.” In order to read Korean literature centered on women, attempts should be made to read women's writings anew while distancing themselves from the framework of interpretation of clichéd criticism. Na Hye-seok's “A Confession of Divorce” is not just a personal confession, but can be seen as a criticism of the reality of women in colonial Joseon by directly recreating personal experiences in the public domain - a reading community that many readers read, enjoy, and criticize.
