An Analysis of Characteristics in Venture Companies Backed by Venture Capital Do-Bum ChungㆍYoung KwakㆍHwasun You In today’s business landscape, the survival and growth of venture companies depend not only on government support but also on private sector investment. However, compared to government support, previous research on venture capital (VC) remains relatively limited. This study examines the current status of venture companies receiving VC investment and analyzes their characteristics. Using data from the “2023 Venture Business Survey,” a decision tree analysis was conducted. The findings indicate that 15.2% of venture companies have received VC investment, suggesting that VC plays a certain role in funding. Additionally, it was found that the likelihood of receiving VC investment increases when the founder’s equity share is 79% or less. Other characteristics influencing VC investment include return on assets, workforce size, relevance to Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, proportion of employees with master’s or doctoral degrees, and total assets. This study offers an exploratory analysis of the characteristics of venture companies backed by VC, providing a foundational resource for future research. Furthermore, it can contribute significantly to the development of national policies aimed at fostering venture companies.
