본 연구는 AI 영화 <나야, 문희> (2024)를 중심으로 인공지능 기술이 영화 산업의 제작 방식, 배우 정체성, 그리고 관객 경험에 미치는 영향을 고찰한다. 연구 대상인 <나야, 문희>는 배우 나문희의 과거 데이터를 기반으로 생성된 AI 캐릭터 ‘문희’를 주인공으로 한 다섯 편의 단편으로 구성된 옴니버스 영화로, AI 기술을 활용한 디지털 배우가 전통적인 영화 문법을 어떻게 확장하고 변형할 수 있는지를 실험적으로 보여준다. 이를 분석하기 위해 이론적 틀로는 볼터와 그루신의 재매개 이론, 발터 벤야민의 아우라 및 디지털 아우라 개념을 적용하였다. <쿠키게임>과 <지금의 나, 문희>는 하이퍼매개와 비매개의 결합을 통해 디지털 매체와 전통 영화 매체 간의 경계를 해체하며, AI 배우와 인간 배우 간의 감정적 경계를 탐색한다. <Do you really know her?>와 <산타 문희>는 AI 배우가 다양한 역할을 수행하며 정체성을 재구성하고, 관객과의 정서적 교감을 통해 디지털 아우라를 형성하는 과정을 보여준다. <나문희 유니버스>는 AI 기술을 활용한 캐릭터 실험과 장르 확장의 가능성을 제시하는 대표적인 사례로 분석된다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 AI 기술이 단순한 제작 도구를 넘어, 영화의 내러티브 구조, 감각 체계, 배우 정체성 구성 방식에 근본적인 전환을 가져오는 중요한 문화적 매개체임을 밝힌다. <나야, 문희>는 디지털 아우라와 재매개 개념을 통해 영화 매체의 새로운 미학과 감상 경험을 구현하는 사례로 기능하며, AI 영화 연구의 이론적·실천적 확장 가능성을 제시한다.
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technology on film production methods, actor identity, and audience experience, with a focus on the AI-based film I’m Moon-hee (2024). The subject of analysis, I’m Moon-hee, is an omnibus film composed of five short episodes centered around “Moon-hee,” an AI-generated character created using archival footage and performance data of the actress Na Moon-hee. This work experimentally demonstrates how digital actors utilizing AI technology can expand and transform traditional cinematic conventions. To analyze this case, the study employs the theoretical frameworks of Bolter and Grusin’s remediation theory and Walter Benjamin’s concepts of aura and digital aura. The episodes Cookie Game and Present Me, Moon-hee deconstruct the boundaries between digital and traditional film media through a hybrid of hypermediacy and transparent immediacy, exploring the emotional interface between AI and human actors. The episodes Do you really know her? and Santa Moon-hee illustrate the reconstruction of identity and the generation of emotional resonance with audiences by AI actors, thus forming a digital aura. Na Moon-hee Universe is analyzed as a representative case of character experimentation and genre expansion made possible by AI technology. Ultimately, this study argues that AI technology functions not merely as a production tool, but as a significant cultural medium that brings fundamental transformations to narrative structures, sensory frameworks, and the construction of actor identity in film. I’m Moon-hee serves as a compelling example of how digital aura and remediation can realize a new aesthetic and viewing experience in film, suggesting both theoretical and practical possibilities for the future of AI film research.
