This investigation aimed to develop an eye cream formulated with cold-pressed Perilla frutescens seed oil and to assess its efficacy in reducing periorbital wrinkles and enhancing skin elasticity through a human application study. An initial skin irritation test confirmed that the formulation is non-irritating, thereby establishing its safety for use. In a four-week clinical trial, 22 women in their 40s applied the product to the eye area twice daily (morning and evening), and pre-treatment and post-treatment skin parameters were compared. The findings revealed that the depth of periorbital wrinkles was reduced by 23.429%, while skin elasticity improved by 7.668%. Additionally, a statistically significant enhancement in periorbital lifting (5.069%) and an increase in skin density (6.280%) were observed. These outcomes are likely attributable to the antioxidant properties of α-linolenic acid and polyphenolic compounds contained in the perilla seed oil, which appear to attenuate collagen degradation and scavenge reactive oxygen species in the dermis. Overall, this study provides scientific evidence supporting the skin-improving benefits of a perilla seed oil-based eye cream and underscores the need for further research to refine formulation characteristics and enhance user experience.
