모바일 학습 앱 SPEAK의 비즈니스 영어 콘텐츠 분석: 비서 직무 영어 교과 적용 가능성을 중심으로
Analysis of Business English Content in the Mobile Learning App SPEAK: Focusing on Its Applicability to Secretarial and Practical English Courses

본 연구는 AI 기반 모바일 영어 학습 도구인 SPEAK 앱이 비서 직무 영어 교육에 활용 가능한지를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해, 첫째, SPEAK 앱의 비즈니스 영어 학습 콘텐츠는 어떤 내용을 담고 있는지, 둘째, SPEAK 앱의 비즈니스 영어 학습 콘텐츠를 비서 직무 영어 교육에 활용하기에 적합한지를 알아보고자 했다. 연구 방법으로, SPEAK 앱의 비즈니스 영어 코스 중 실무영어와 회사생활영어 코스의 콘텐츠를 분석하였으며, 비서 직무와의 관련성을 중심으로 학습 항목들을 검토하였다. 연구 결과, 일부 유닛과 레슨이 비서 직무 영어와 관련성이 있었으나, 전체적으로는 직무 특수성을 반영한 ESP(English for specific purposes) 콘텐츠가 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 비서 직무 수행에 요구되는 언어 역량을 효과적으로 훈련하기 위해서는 보다 세분화된 직무 기반 콘텐츠의 개발이 필요함을 시사한다. 또한, 모바일 학습 도구를 ESP 수업에 효과적으로 적용하기 위해 교수자는 해당 앱의 구조와 내용을 충분히 파악한 뒤, 수업 맥락에 맞는 활용 전략을 수립할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 MALL(mobile-assisted language learning)을 비서 영어 교육에 접목하려는 첫 번째 시도라는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 향후 비서 직무에 특화된 영어 콘텐츠 개발과 직무 중심 영어 교육에 특화된 모바일 학습 도구의 개발 가능성을 제시하고, 향후 실험적 검증 및 커리큘럼 연계 연구의 필요성을 논의한다.
Abstract
This study explores the potential use of the AI-based mobile English learning application, SPEAK, in secretary-specific ESP education. This research examined the content of the business English modules of SPEAK and the applicability of this content to English training for secretarial tasks. As a method, this study analyzed the content of the “Practical English” and “Workplace English” courses within the app, focusing on the relevance to typical secretarial duties. These findings suggest that although some units and lessons showed partial relevance to secretarial communication needs, the overall content lacked task-specific ESP elements tailored to the secretary profession. These results highlight the need for more specialized, job-based content to effectively train the language competencies required in secretarial roles. Moreover, to integrate mobile tools like SPEAK effectively into ESP instruction, educators must thoroughly understand the structure and content of an app and design usage strategies that align with classroom contexts. Based on the findings, this study suggests future directions for developing mobile learning tools and English content tailored to secretarial duties, and it calls for further experimental validation and curriculum integration.
