초록
오늘날 전 세계는 환경 오염과 자원 고갈이라는 복합적인 위기에 직면하고 있으며, 그 중심에는 플라스틱 폐기물 문제가 있다. 플라스틱은 그 편의성과 경제성으로 인해 현대 산업 전반에 폭넓게 사용되고 있지만, 분해되지 않고 축적되는 특성 때문에 심각한 생태계 교란과 환경 부담을 초래한다. 특히 일회용 플라스틱의 사용량 증가로 인해 폐플라스틱의 발생량은 매년 기하급수적으로 늘고 있어서, 그것은 단순한 폐기물 관리의 차원을 넘어 생존과 연결된 구조적 문제로 인식되고 있다. 이러한 폐플라스틱을 재활용, 재사용하는 방법의 하나는 지속 가능한 디자인이다. 폐플라스틱을 활용한 다양한 장신구 디자인 사례는 폐플라스틱 병이나 포장재를 활용하여 귀걸이, 목걸이, 팔찌 등 다양한 액세서리를 제작한 것들이다. 이러한 장신구는 기존의 장신구들과 차별화되며, 플라스틱 폐기물 문제를 해결하는 동시에 미적 가치를 제공할 수 있다. 이 재활용 과정에서 디자인적 창의성이 강조되며, 제품의 기능성과 미적 요소가 균형을 이루도록 해야 한다. 지속 가능한 장신구 디자인의 주요 원칙은 환경적 책임, 재료의 선택, 에너지 효율성, 그리고 제품의 재사용 가능성이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이 원칙을 적용하여 에너지 절약과 환경 보호, 장신구의 내구성과 품질 보장과 아울러 환경에 미치는 영향을 최소화하는 디자인을 시도하였다. 따라서 폐플라스틱을 활용한 지속 가능한 장신구 디자인은 환경 보호와 미적 가치 창출을 동시에 실현할 가능성을 확인하였다. 이 연구는 폐플라스틱을 장신구 디자인에 활용할 수 있는 다양한 방법을 제시하며, 앞으로의 지속 가능한 디자인 연구에 중요한 기초 자료가 될 것이다. 다만, 재활용 플라스틱을 활용한 디자인이 상업적으로 성공하기 위해서는 소비자들의 인식 변화와 함께, 디자인의 창의성 및 품질을 높이는 노력이 필요하다고 판단한다.
Abstract
Today, the world is facing a complex crisis of environmental pollution and resource depletion, and plastic waste problems are at the center of it. Plastics have been widely used throughout the modern industry due to their convenience and economy, but they cause serious ecosystem disturbances and environmental burdens due to their accumulated properties without decomposition. In particular, due to the increase in the use of disposable plastics, the amount of waste plastics is increasing exponentially every year, and it is recognized as a structural problem linked to sustainable survival beyond just waste management. One of the ways to recycle and reuse these waste plastics is through sustainable design. Various examples of jewelry design using waste plastics are the creation of various accessories such as earrings, necklaces, and bracelets using waste plastic bottles or packaging materials. These accessories are differentiated from existing accessories and can provide aesthetic value while solving the problem of plastic waste. Design creativity should be emphasized during this recycling process, and the functionality and aesthetic elements of the product should be balanced. The main principles of sustainable jewelry design are environmental responsibility, material selection, energy efficiency, and product reuse. Therefore, in this paper, I applied this principle to try a design that minimizes the impact on the environment as well as energy conservation and environmental protection, durability and quality of jewelry. Therefore, I confirmed the possibility of realizing both environmental protection and aesthetic value creation by using waste plastics. This study presents various ways to utilize waste plastics for jewelry design and will be an important basis for future sustainable design research. However, in order for a design using recycled plastic to succeed commercially, I believe that efforts to increase the creativity and quality of the design are necessary along with changes in consumers' perception.
