지역 스타트업 생태계에서 대학기술지주회사의 역할: 투자 사례 분석을 중심으로

Purpose - This study investigates the role of university technology holdings in promoting regional start-up ecosystems. It focuses on how these institutions act as early-stage investors in the context of limited private venture capital in non-metropolitan areas. Design/methodology/approach - The research employs a case study methodology, analyzing five university technology holdings located in Gangwon, Chungcheong, Honam, Daegu-Gyeongbuk, and Dongnam regions. These cases were selected based on their registration as accelerators and their operation of university-led venture funds. Findings - University technology holdings serve as anchor institutions for regional innovation by discovering research-based start-ups and providing early-stage capital. Through collaboration with local governments, universities, and related organizations, they form joint funds and build sustainable support infrastructures. Their activities extend beyond traditional technology transfer to encompass strategic investment and regional development. Research implications or Originality - This study provides practical and policy implications for enhancing the early-stage investment capacity of university technology holdings in less-developed regions. It contributes to existing literature by offering empirical insights into how Korean university holdings are emerging as place-based innovation actors, distinct from conventional commercialization entities.
