세대 간 범죄 전이에 대한 부모의 양육 태도 및 훈육 방식의 조절 역할

본 연구는 영국의 케임브리지 비행 발달 연구(Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development, CSDD) 자료를 활용하여, 부모의 범죄 이력이 자녀의 범죄 가능성에 미치는 영향을 부모의 양육 태도 및 훈육 방식이 어떻게 조절하는지를 실증적으로 검토하였다. 이를 위해 총 282쌍의 아들과 부모를 대상으로 분석을 실시하였으며, 로지스틱 회귀 분석과 Hayes(2022)의 Process Macro Model 1을 적용하여 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 아버지의 범죄 횟수는 아들의 범죄 가능성에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며, 아버지의 범죄가 1회 증가할 때마다 아들이 유죄판결을 받을 가능성이 약 1.486배로 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 아버지의 범죄 이력이 자녀의 범죄로 전이되는 과정에서 양쪽 부모의 양육 태도 및 훈육 방식이 모두 조절 변수로 유의하게 작용하였다. 구체적으로 아버지의 양육 태도가 부정적일수록 아들의 범죄 가능성이 높아지는 경향이 나타났고, 어머니의 양육 태도는 보호 요인으로 기능하여 아버지의 범죄 영향력을 완화하는 효과를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 양육 태도 및 훈육 방식이 세대 간 범죄 전이의 경로를 실질적으로 조절할 수 있는 개입 요인임을 시사하며, 특히 아버지의 역할과 양육의 질에 초점을 맞춘 예방적 개입의 필요성을 강조한다.
Abstract
This study investigates how parenting practices moderate the effect of parental criminal history on the likelihood of offspring criminal history, using data from the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development(CSDD) in the United Kingdom. The analysis is based on a sample of 282 sons and their parents. Logistic regression analysis and Hayes’(2022) Process Macro Model 1 were employed. The results show that the number of paternal convictions had a statistically significant impact on the son’s likelihood of criminal convictions; specifically, each additional paternal offense increased the odds of the son being convicted by approximately 1.486 times. Furthermore, parenting and disciplinary practices significantly moderated the intergenerational transmission of criminal behavior. Negative paternal parenting styles served as a protective factor that mitigated the adverse impact of paternal criminal history. These findings suggest that parenting practices play a crucial moderating role in the intergenerational transmission of crime and highlight the need for preventive interventions focused on improving paternal parenting quality and strengthening emotional bonds within the family.
