인공지능(AI)의 활용이 투자효율성 및 기업가치에 미치는 영향

초록
[연구목적]본 연구는 최근 비약적으로 발전하고 있는 인공지능(AI) 기술을 기업이 활용하는 수준에 따라 투자효율성이 어떻게 달라지는지, 그리고 기업이 인공지능의 활용을 고도화하는 것에 대해 시장의 인식은 어떠한지를 실증적으로 분석하였다. [연구방법]2020년부터 2024년까지 한국거래소 유가증권시장 상장법인의 지속가능경영보고서에 기재된 인공지능기술 활용사례를 기반으로 인공지능 활용수준을 4단계(편의성, 위험관리, 내부 효율화, 제품혁신)의 누적적 구조로 분류한 후, 인공지능 활용수준이 기업의 투자효율성 및 기업가치(Tobin’s Q)와 각각 어떤 관련성을 가지는지 회귀분석을 수행하였다. [연구결과]본 연구의 주요발견은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기업의 인공지능 활용수준은 투자효율성의 개선에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 인공지능의 활용이 기업의 적정수준 투자를 유도하는 방식으로 활용되지는 않고 있음을 시사한다. 둘째, 활용수준을 일정수준(2단계 위험관리)까지 고도화시키는 것, 또는 최종제품에 인공지능 기술을 탑재하는 것에 대한 시장의 반응은 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 이는 시장이 평가하는 인공지능 활용의 최적수준이 존재함을 시사한다. [연구의 시사점]본 연구는 기업의 인공지능 활용수준을 세분화하여 그 활용이 고도화될 때 투자의사결정 및 외부시장인식에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 초기 실증증거를 제시하였다는 점에서 학문적․실무적 의의가 있다.
Abstract
[Purpose]This study investigates how the level of artificial intelligence (AI) utilization by firms affects their investment efficiency, and how the market perceives firms’ efforts to advance their use of AI. [Methodology]Based on the AI－related descriptions in the sustainability reports of Korean public firms from 2020 to 2024, we classify the level of AI utilization into four cumulative stages. We then conduct OLS regressions to examine how each stage is associated with investment efficiency and firm value (Tobin’s Q). [Findings]The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the level of AI utilization by firms does not have a significant effect on improving investment efficiency. Second, the market responds positively when firms advance their AI utilization up to a certain level (Stage 2: risk management) or when they integrate AI technology into their final products. [Implications]This study has academic and practical implications in that it provides initial empirical evidence on how the advancement of AI utilization by firms, categorized into detailed levels, affects corporate investment decisions and external market perceptions.
