[연구목적]최근 핵심 트랜드로 부상한 ESG와 AI를 융합하여, 정확한 ESG 측정을 위한 실증연구가 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 후즈굿(Who’s Good)의 AI 기반 ESG 데이터가 기업성과에 미치는 영향을 실증하여, ESG 발전과 확대에 AI의 적용 가능성을 확인하고 발전방향을 제시한다. [연구방법]본 연구는 2022년부터 2024년까지의 후즈굿의 ESG 데이터를 주요 설명변수로 활용한다. 후즈굿의 데이터 특성을 다양한 측면에서 살펴보고, 기업성과에 미치는 영향은 패널회귀분석을 통해 확인한다. 또한 연구의 강건성을 높이기 위해 선행연구에서 주로 활용된 한국ESG기준원의 데이터를 동시에 활용하여, 후즈굿의 실증분석 결과와 효과성을 비교분석 하였다. [연구결과]후즈굿의 ESG 점수는 연간 변동성이 낮으며 영역별 상관성이 크게 분리되는 현상을 보인다. 패널회귀분석 결과 후즈굿의 ESG 데이터는 기업성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 상대적으로 후즈굿은 단기성과인 ROA에, 한국ESG기준원은 장기성과인 토빈Q에 보다 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인된다. 다만 한국ESG기준원의 유의성은 시간의 흐름에 따라 낮아지는 것으로 나타나, AI 기반의 ESG 데이터 활용의 중요성을 확인할 수 있었다. [연구의 시사점]본 연구는 후즈굿의 ESG 데이터가 높은 신뢰성과 정확성을 지님을 실증하였다. 또한 다른 기관의 ESG 데이터와 상호 보완적으로 활용될 수 있음도 확인하였다. 이를 종합하여 ESG 데이터 생성에 AI 기술의 적용이 유용할 수 있음을 제언한다. 본 연구는 국내 회계학 문헌 중 후즈굿 데이터를 활용한 첫 실증연구인 만큼, 향후 AI 기반의 ESG 연구 확대에 중요한 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
[Purpose]Many studies are utilizing ESG and AI. Accordingly, this study empirically demonstrates the impact of Who's Good data(AI－based ESG) on corporate performance, and determine whether AI can be used to advance and expand ESG. [Methodology]This study uses Who's Good ESG data from 2022 to 2024 as the main explanatory variable. The characteristics of Who's Good data are confirmed in various aspects, and the impact on corporate performance is confirmed through panel regression analysis. [Findings]Who's Good ESG score shows low annual volatility and a large separation of correlations by ESG area. The results of the panel regression analysis show that Who's Good ESG data has a significant impact on corporate performance. However, it was confirmed that Who's Good had a more significant impact on short－term performance, ROA, and the KCGS had a more significant impact on long－term performance, Tobin's Q. [Implications]This study demonstrated that Who's Good ESG data has high reliability and accuracy. It also confirmed that it can be used complementarily with ESG data from other organizations. Finally, this study confirmed that the application of AI can be useful in ESG data generation. As this study is the first empirical study utilizing Who's Good, it is expected to contribute to the expansion of AI－based ESG study in the future.
