초록
최근 공공 데이터의 개방이 일반 국민을 대상으로 확대됨에 따라, 기존에는 전문가 중심으로 공공기관 내 특정 수요자에게 한정적으로 제공되던 데이터가 점차 일반 국민에게도 접근 가능하도록 전환되고 있다. 이러한 흐름과 함께, 주제도(Thematic Map)를 활용한 정보 시각화 방식이 주목받고 있다. 특히 웹을 기반으로 하는 주제도는 다양한 주제의 데이터를 직관적으로 시각화함으로써 사용자의 정보 접근성과 탐색 편의성을 높이는 중요한 수단으로 기능하고 있다. 이러한 주제도가 효과적으로 활용되기 위해서는 사용자 관점에서 쉽고 명확하게 정보를 이해할 수 있도록 설계된 인터페이스 디자인이 필수적이다. 따라서 본 논문의 목적은 웹 기반 주제도의 UI(User Interface) 디자인 요소를 분석하고, 이를 통해 사용자의 정보 탐색 경험을 향상시키기 위한 효과적인 인터페이스 디자인 방향성을 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 첫째, 주제도와 관련된 문헌 조사를 통해 웹 기반 주제도의 개념과 UI 디자인 요소를 연구한다. 둘째, 국내외에서 운영 중인 8개의 웹 기반 주제도 사례를 선정하여 문헌 조사를 통해 도출한 디자인 요소를 기준으로 분석한다. 마지막으로, 사례 분석 결과를 바탕으로 웹 기반 주제도의 시각적 요소 특징을 도출하고, UI 디자인 개선 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 향후 웹 기반 주제도의 UI 디자인 가이드라인을 마련하는 데 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
As open public-data initiatives have expanded, datasets that were once restricted to expert-oriented users within public institutions are increasingly accessible to the general public. In this context, thematic maps have gained attention as a means of visualizing diverse topics. In particular, web-based thematic maps improve users’ access and information-seeking efficiency by intuitively visualizing data. To ensure effective use, a user-centered interface design that enables clear, easy understanding is essential. This paper analyzes UI design elements of web-based thematic maps and proposes design directions to enhance users’ information-seeking experience. First, a literature review examines the concept of web-based thematic maps and relevant UI elements. Second, eight domestic and international services are analyzed against design elements derived from the literature. Finally, we identify characteristics of visual elements and suggest directions for UI design improvements. The findings provide a foundation for developing UI design guidelines for web-based thematic maps.
